8 Weeks

Friday I had another doctor appointment and we finally got to see and hear the heartbeat!!! It was so cool and a relief to know that everything was ok so far. The heart was beating so fast 169 bpm! I measured exactly a week behind again at only 7 weeks but the doctor said it's no concern since the baby is growing at a normal rate. They don't officially date the pregnancy until they do the nuchal scan at around 11 weeks so we will see what happens.

The nausea has started to set in this week. Nothing major just feeling not so good at times and then it usually passes. I have not had to pray to the porcelain god as of yet so let's hope it stays this way. I had two days of feeling like I had a very upset stomach after I ate but that seems to have passed as well. To be honest most days I feel like I have a hangover. I found this comic to be fitting for this week.

Other than that I've noticed I'm starting to get cravings for certain things. Nothing strange yet but more like I get hungry and I'm in the mood for something like say a cheeseburger and that's what I have to eat. I've also noticed that my normal extremely sweet tooth is pretty much nonexistent and I find myself eating more salty or especially spicy foods. I still haven't gained any weight. In fact I lost the one pound I had gained this week and am back to my pre-pregnancy weight. My next appointment is in three weeks so if I don't gain anything by then I'll have to check with my doctor. I think that's it for week 8. Here are this week's pictures.

7 Weeks

I'm starting to wish there was something new to blog about! I really feel the same, mostly just tired. I feel like I should be seeing some bloat or something in the belly by now but there's nothing there. I guess I should be happy about that!! Thanks again to Dad and Shirley for my copy of "What to Expect When You're Expecting." That was so thoughtful of you!!

To Dye or Not to Dye??

I've been highlighting my hair for a few years now, but I'm wondering is it safe to continue doing while pregnant? I asked my doctor. She says she does not recommend doing it until at least 20 weeks. In 20 weeks my roots will be down to my ears!!! Everything I read in the pregnancy books and on the Internet says there is no proven risk to dying your hair while pregnant, especially if you use foils like I do because little to none of the product even touch the scalp. I mean, hairdressers get pregnant and are around the chemicals their whole pregnancy. I hate to take any unnecessary risks at all when it comes to the heath of my baby, but I wish I could just get a clear answer on how safe or unsafe it really is. For now, I guess I'll try the lemon juice recipe I used to use in high school!

6 Weeks

I guess for now I'll just continue counting the weeks as I have been until my doctor can give me a better estimate and a due date. Not many changes this week. Most times, I don't even really feel pregnant and have to remind myself that I am. The fatigue is still kicking me in the butt. And speaking of the butt, my left butt cheek is still sore from the shot on Thursday! My boobs definitely feel bigger these past few days, or maybe that is just wishful thinking. Who knows!! I expected by now to feel some bloating or something but I really haven't had any at all so I guess that's a good thing. Here are the pics this week of my non existent belly bump.

Busy Day Today

First, we got up early and headed to my doctors appointment. The results from my blood work last week were and and while my HCG levels were increasing like they should be, my progesterone levels were low. My doctor said she wasn't too concerned because the other levels were so high, but progesterone is important in early pregnancy because it is basically what sustains the pregnancy. It keeps the lining of the uterus thick and my ovaries are supposed to continuously produce progesterone until the placenta is formed and it takes over. So now once a week Jason has to inject me with a progesterone supplement in my butt cheek to keep my levels where they should be. Not fun but necessary and worth it. Then she took a look inside with what I like to call the "dildo cam" and we could see the gestational sac and a little blurb of what is the embryo inside. It's all finally starting to sink in! Because the embryo was so small she measured the sac and estimated me to be 4 weeks and 6 days pregnant, a whole week behind what I estimated. She said nothing to worry about, I just ovulated late this month and with pregnancy tests being so sensitive, I got a very early positive.

Later in the day we went car shopping. We've been needing to get Jason a new car since the truck was getting pretty old but now with the baby on the way we needed a more family friendly vehicle. We ended up getting a pretty great deal on a 2008 GMC Yukon which is exactly what he wanted! Car shopping is stressful enough without being pregnant and hormonal. After being there about 3 hours and going back and forth on pricing the manager asked us "Why are you getting so agitated?" where I promptly responded with "Because I'm pregnant, hormonal, and tired and I just want to hurry this up already!" Uhh, after that he knocked $1000 off the price!! Anyway, the car is beautiful and will definitely suit our needs for years to come.

Pregnancy Brain

Is it too early for this because I swear I'm losing my mind! Today I spent 5 minutes searching the house for my keys, running all around up and down the stairs. I finally found them....in my purse where I must have put them only a few seconds before the frantic search. ::slaps forehead:: I'm in for a long nine months!

5 Weeks

5 weeks now and I'm feeling pretty much the same. I still feel generally tired although that seems to be improving just a little bit. My sense of smell is definitely heightened. I smell everything. The other day I ran around my kitchen like a freak because something smelled bad and I wasn't satisfied until I sprayed everything down, and not only took out the trash but sprayed the trash can out with Lysol and took it outside and hosed it down. Oh and lunchtime and work is not very fun either. People heating up whatever random things they bring, it all smells bad. My newest symptom this week is sore and sensitive boobs. Also, my appetite is out of control. It seems like I get hungry a lot more often and when I'm hungry, I'm starving! According to my scale I have gained about a pound. Before I got pregnant I lost a few pounds due to stress and I was at the lowest I have weighed in my adult life so I expect to gain a few pounds back right away. Other than that we are just looking forward to Thursday when we go back to the doctor and hopefully we can see the baby this time and even the heartbeat.

How far along? 5 weeks
Total weight gain/loss: +1
How big is the baby? the size of a sesame seed
Maternity clothes? nope
Sleep: Sleeping pretty good except last night I got up twice to pee. Hopefully that doesn't become a habit
Best moment this week: Really letting the pregnancy sink in. :)
Movement: It's moving but I can't feel it.
Food cravings: None really yet
Gender: Still thinking boy
Labor Signs: Hopefully not for a very long time
Belly Button in or out? In
What I miss the most: My energy still and diet coke.
What I am looking forward to: Our ultrasound on Thursday
Symptoms: Complete exhaustion, have to pee a lot, everything smells, sore boobs, starving

Weekly Update: Your embryo (looking kind of like a tadpole) is starting to form major organs (heart, kidney, liver, stomach) and systems (nervous, circulatory, digestive). Baby's presence in your uterus triggers production of hCG (the hormone detected by pregnancy tests)... which triggers production of other hormones like estrogen and progesterone... which trigger all those great symptoms you've probably been noticing

Anyone in there?

Well the doctor appointment was pretty pointless. She did an internal ultrasound but she said it was just too early to see anything. I did get blood drawn so they can test my levels and I have to get more blood drawn on Friday. I go back next week and hopefully they can find something in there this time. I'm not too concerned yet. I may just be even earlier than I thought. I'm still feeling the same, nothing new to report although my early maternal instincts say we're having a boy. No particular reason why I feel that way I just do so we'll see.

How far along? around 4 weeks
Total weight gain/loss: none yet
How big is the baby? the size of a poppy seed
Maternity clothes? nope
Sleep: I want to sleep all the time! Sooo tired!
Best moment this week: Letting the pregnancy sink in. :)
Movement: The only thing moving is my bladder.
Food cravings: None really yet
Gender: Feeling like it's a boy
Labor Signs: Hopefully not for a very long time
Belly Button in or out? In
What I miss the most: My energy
What I am looking forward to: Finally seeing the little baby.
Symptoms: Complete exhaustion, have to pee a lot, everything smells
Milestones: First ever positive pregnancy test.

Weekly Update: In week 3, sperm meets egg, and voila: conception! Your little zygote sets off on a six-day trek through your fallopian tubes, dividing and redividing into identical cells as it travels to your uterus. In week 4, now safe in your womb, the ball of cells (blastocyst) splits in two, becoming the embryo and the placenta. The amniotic sac and fluid are forming around baby, and will act as a cushion for the next eight months..

Sooo Sleepy

Pregnancy is starting to kick in. I feel generally normal except I am soooooo exhausted all the time. I can hardly work I am so tired. The only other symptoms I am experiencing are I have to pee a lot more and my sense of smell is definitely much stronger. It's so crazy to think, I feel mostly normal yet there is something alive growing inside of me. It's so surreal. I have my first doctor appointment tomorrow and I believe I'm only about 4 weeks along so we will see how it goes. We picked up a couple of pregnancy books today. I feel like there is so much to learn.

Here is a picture me the day after I found out. I plan to take weekly pictures to watch how my body changes along the way.

I think I need another test!

That was the first thing I said when I looked at the pregnancy test and saw just the faintest line on it. The truth is, I was only one day late and really only took the test because I knew it would be negative. I went to target and bought the cheapest test I could find just to ease my mind so it was kind of a shocker to see that line barely appear. I immediately ran to the store and bought 3 more tests. I took 2 of them, and guess what...both positive. I'm pregnant! When Jason came home he wanted me to take the last test. Yep that one was positive too. Although we knew getting pregnant was a definite possiblity, for some reason when it happened I was just totally in shock. The next morning Jason got up early and went to the store and bought a bunch more tests and made me take 3 more. So seven positive pregnancy tests later its finally starting to sink in!
